- Use soft-bristle toothbrush for brushing your teeth. Regularly brush your teeth and make a habit of brushing it twice a day.
- Floss after brushing your teeth. It should be done at least once a day. It removes plaque and food particles stuck between your teeth and gums.
- Don’t forget to clean your gums and mouth. Cleaning gums boosts your oral hygiene and reduces the risk of having diseases like gum disease, gingivitis, plaque and other periodontal disease. You can use therapeutic mouthwash to clean your gums.
- Visit your dentist regularly or once every six months. It allows your dentist to get your teeth cleaned and examined properly. The dentist can also discover some early signs of having tooth decay, gum disease or any other potential problems.
- Maintained a regular and healthy diet. Always eat lighter foods and avoid foods that can cause tooth decay. Get indulged in foods such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean meats and of course, water!
Don’ts Of Dental Hygiene
Keep in mind that some habits should not be followed in maintaining proper oral hygiene.
- Are you using a hard-bristled brush? If yes, then switch to soft-bristled brush as it hard bristles can sometimes be painful and even cause the gums to fall apart. Don’t forget to replace your toothbrush every 3 months or when you recover from sickness.
- Don’t get your teeth brushed immediately after eating any acidic food. This causes tiny particles of enamel to be brushed away. So it is suggested to wait at least 1 hour after having your meal. Don’t skip brushing and make sure to do it every day.
- Don’t get your teeth overbleached because it will cause sensitivity in your mouth thus causing various problems. Prevent smoking because it discolorises your teeth and increases the likelihood of tooth decay.
- Ignoring your diet! Stop consuming soft drinks and sugary foods because your enamel worn out overtime due to their highly acidic nature. It can also cause tooth decay and other oral problems.
- Thinking that ignoring pain will work! Don’t ignore your pain or abnormalities. Visit the dentist as soon as possible if you have bleeding gums, tooth sensitivity, or any other oral issues.
