What Is Invisalign?
The Invisalign system uses a series of invisible, removable and comfortable aligners that no one else can tell you are wearing to correct crooked, crowded teeth. Instead of the traditional brackets, bands and wires, at each visit patients get a set of custom-made aligner trays created with 3-D computer imaging technology. The trays are worn full time and gradually shift teeth into position.
Benefits of Invisalign
The biggest benefit of this treatment method is that the aligners are practically invisible. No one can tell that the aligner is there. There are many other benefits of Invisalign though. Trays are removable for easier brushing and flossing. Without brackets to break or wires to bend, patients are free to eat and drink whatever they want during treatment. No metal components sticking out means no irritation of the lips, cheeks or tongue. This treatment also requires fewer, shorter appointments and lets patients check out their virtual treatment plan to get an idea of what their smile will look like when treatment is finished.
How Invisalign Works?
Each set of aligners is worn full time for about two weeks. They should only be removed to eat, drink, brush and floss. Office visits are every six weeks for the orthodontist to monitor progress and the patient to pick up the next aligners in the series. These amounts vary depending on the patient, but the average length of treatment with Invisalign is about a year and the average number of aligners used is 24.
